Indian athlete Parul Chaudhary has left an indelible mark on the Hangzhou Asian Games, clinching two prestigious medals. Parul’s remarkable performance includes a silver in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and a gold in the 5,000-meter race, solidifying her status as one of Asia’s top distance runners.
The standout moment of her triumph occurred during the final stretch of the 5,000 meters when Parul, despite appearing to settle for silver, displayed incredible determination. In an awe-inspiring finish, she overtook Japan’s Hironaka Ririka in the last 50 meters, claiming the gold medal. Ririka had seemed poised for victory but left an opening on the inner lane, which Parul seized with unwavering resolve.

Hailing from Meerut, Parul’s foray into athletics began at the encouragement of her father, Kishanlal Chaudhary, despite their family’s background in farming. Kishanlal, with no prior sports aspirations for his children, recalls the moment when he suggested Parul participate in a school race. Little did he know that this simple suggestion would lead to his daughter representing India in athletics and reaching the finals of a World Championships.
