The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken significant steps towards justice in the tragic case of the killing of two Meitei students, Phijam Hemanjit and Hijam Linthoingambi. On Sunday, the CBI made four arrests and detained two minors in connection with the disturbing incident that had gripped the nation’s attention. The victims’ purported photos, which recently went viral on social media, had deeply shaken the public, highlighting the urgency of the investigation.
The four adult accused have been identified as Paominlun Haokip, S Malsawn Haokip, Lhingneichong Baite, and Tinnuphing. Additionally, two minors were detained as part of the ongoing investigation.
Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh addressed the media regarding this significant development. He revealed that the accused individuals have been safely transported to Guwahati by a special flight. He further explained that the apprehension of the suspects occurred during a joint operation led by the CBI, in collaboration with the state police and security forces. This operation took place in the Henglep area of Churachandpur district.
Chief Minister N Biren Singh stated, “Since violence rekindled across the valley district, a team led by the CBI special director, with the assistance of state and central forces, has been tirelessly conducting an operation to apprehend the culprits. The state of Manipur is resolute in its commitment to ensuring justice is served in this case. We will leave no stone unturned to track down others who may be involved in this heinous crime, and we are determined to ensure that fitting punishment is delivered to the culprits.”
