Renowned actor Pankaj Tripathi has taken a voluntary decision to step down from the position of the National Icon of the Election Commission of India (ECI). This decision comes as he prepares to portray the role of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, a late BJP stalwart, in the upcoming biopic titled ‘Main Atal Hoon.’
Acknowledging his significant role as a political leader in the forthcoming film, Pankaj Tripathi voluntarily relinquished the position of ECI National Icon, in accordance with the terms of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The Election Commission expresses gratitude for his impactful contribution to voter awareness and Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) since October 2022.
The Election Commission had appointed Pankaj Tripathi as the National Icon in October 2022.
In his upcoming project ‘Main Atal Hoon,‘ Pankaj Tripathi, known for his versatility, will portray the iconic BJP politician Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The movie is scheduled for release on January 19.
In an old interview, Pankaj Tripathi shared his college affiliation with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and revealed an inclination towards politics. However, he shifted his focus to plays and dramas after an arrest and subsequent events.
Pankaj Tripathi, a National Film Award winner for his outstanding performances in ‘Newton’ and ‘Mimi,’ expressed his honor in bringing the inspirational story of Atal Bihari Vajpayee to the world.
