Prime Minister Narendra Modi embarked on a unique spiritual journey as he dived into the depths of the Arabian Sea to offer prayers at the submerged site of ancient Dwarka, the legendary city of Lord Krishna. Clad in a saffron kurta and pajama, adorned with a Navy hat, Prime Minister Modi’s dive symbolized not just courage but also deep veneration for the spiritual heritage of India.
The ancient city of Dwarka, immortalized in the Mahabharata as the kingdom of Lord Krishna, now rests beneath the waves where the Gomti River meets the Arabian Sea. As Prime Minister Modi delved into the waters, carrying morpankh (peacock feathers) associated with Lord Krishna, he connected with an era of spiritual grandeur and timeless devotion.
Expressing his sentiments, Prime Minister Modi shared, “To pray in the city of Dwarka, which is immersed in the waters, was a very divine experience. I felt connected to an ancient era of spiritual grandeur and timeless devotion. May Bhagwan Shri Krishna bless us all,” via his official Twitter handle along with images from his underwater experience.
Before his immersion, Prime Minister Modi visited the Dwarkadhish temple and received an idol of Lord Krishna as a gift, acknowledging that whatever happens there is the wish of Dwarkadhish. Reflecting on the significance of his journey, he remarked, “I went inside the sea to get a darshan of ancient Dwarka. Archaeologists have written a lot about the Dwarka city hidden underwater. In our scriptures too, it is said that Dwarka is like the crown of the world because of its beautiful gates and tall buildings. It is said the Lord Krishna himself designed the city.”
Prime Minister Modi emphasized that visiting the submerged city was a long-cherished dream. Spending significant time underwater, he made a resolve to contribute to India’s development and prosperity, stating, “I spent quite a long time inside the water as I made my resolve to make India ‘vikshit’ stronger as I offered my prayers.”
